"My windows are dripping with condensation."
Or, "Icicles are ruining my roof and water is raining inside my house!"
Where is all this moisture coming from? It may be that your lifestyle adds lots of moisture to the air; it might be that there are some sources of moisture in the house that are adding to the level of humidity in the house; it might be that cooking on your stove is adding moisture; it might be that the bath fans are not moving any air in spite of the fact that they make lots of noise – the house is suffocating in moisture! Or it might be that it doesn’t have enough insulation in the proper places, and that the water vapor in the air is condensing on interior cold surfaces and rotting wood surfaces. Too much moisture inside the house may even be causing the peeling paint on your outdoor trim. There may be mold and mildew growing in places you can’t see in the attic, basement, and inner walls. One thing is for sure, the potential for wetting to occur outpaces the drying potential. I can measure the level of moisture in your house, find the source of it, and figure out what needs to be done. If surfaces are too cold, then I’ll find out where extra insulation is needed to combat the condensation issues. If your house proves tight (a house should be tight), then we will look at ways to ventilate the moisture out of the house.
